He Bin was born in 1960 in China's northeastern Jilin province. He moved to Yunnan during his teen years and graduated from Yunnan's Art Institute in 1986. He has since taught in the Yunnan Arts and Crafts School while pursuing his own career as an artist for children’s books, woodblock print artist and oil painter. After touring the United States in 2010, he fell in love with Door County and considers it to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. His only daughter is currently attending Michigan State University.
